I have two friends who’ve both taken a few semesters of ASL, and occasionally they’ll just have random silly conversations or use choice signs just ‘cause they’re fun to do, and I’ve picked up on random words for things/sentence structures and whatnot. (For example, you can say ‘Germany’ three different ways, and one of them is just making a Hitler ‘stache with your pointer finger. WHAT)
Anyway we were hanging out a few days ago and something EXTREMELY TROUBLING occurred to me.
How do puns work in Sign Language?
Answer: THEY DON’T. One of the aforementioned friends told me that ASL jokes are basically just funny stories, and puns/wordplay don’t really happen.
In other news I have no idea what this woman is signing but her gestures/expressions are endlessly amusing.
